NORTH COAST 500 (packed lunch)

Enjoy the stunning changing scenery of the North Coast 500 today as we journey through some of Scotland’s most beautiful and remote landscapes. Along by Lairg which is perched at the mouth of Loch Shin we travel by Altnaharra and Loch Loyal under the shadow of Ben Loyal, the Queen of Scottish Mountains, until we reach the Kyle of Tongue, a shallow sea loch in Sutherland featuring a rocky coastline and unforgettable views. By the scenic Loch Eriboll and our lunch stop in Durness where you can explore the magnificent Smoo Cave - a dramatic sea cave set in the Cliffside. Or why not experience a walk along the golden sands of Sango Bay which could be mistaken for any Caribbean beach.  We then join the coach as we return along the North Coast 500 route down the coastal road by beautiful sea lochs and over the now famous photographic Kylesku Bridge, with a picture stop at the 15th century ruins of Ardvreck Castle. We return to the hotel in the evening to enjoy our delicious meal in the restaurant.

This morning is yours to relax at your leisure and explore the Victorian spa town of Strathpeffer before the coach takes you on a lovely scenic excursion through the Black Isle where you will have time to visit Cromarty, home to Hugh Millers Cottage and then onto Fortrose where you can enjoy the beach and views from Chanory Point and maybe even spot some native dolphins. Don’t miss Brahan Seer stone here too, to commemorate the prophet Coinneach Odhar who in the 17th century predicted many future events - and paid a high price for doing so. We travel onto Dingwall for a stop in the market town before returning the Strathpeffer in the evening.

The coach will today travel through the unspoilt West Highland landscapes of Strath Bran and Glen Carron before we cross ‘over the sea to the Isle of Skye’. Soak up the views of the Inner Sound, Scalpay & Raasay before arriving in the harbour town of Portree. Overlooking Loch Portree you will have plenty of time to explore the islands largest town, find out more about Highland life in the Skye & Lochalsh Archive Centre, discover the tasty treats in the local cafes and shop for gifts and local crafts in the town centre. Enjoy the journey back to the hotel after your visit to the wonderful scenery of Skye.
