Excursions

EILEAN DONAN CASTLE & PLOCKTON

After a hearty Scottish breakfast in the Ben Wyvis Hotel, depart with the coach this morning for a lovely scenic journey through the unspoilt West Highland landscapes of Strath Bran and Glen Carron before we arrive in Dornie and visit the most photographed castle in Scotland - Eilean Donan.  Tour the castle at leisure and enjoy the magnificent position it holds overlooking Loch Duich & Loch Alsh before we travel to the nearby lochside village of Plockton.  A beautiful little gem in the Highlands, enjoy your time here to explore the harbour overlooking the sea loch and there are some shops here to enjoy as well before we return to Strathpeffer in time for dinner in the hotel.

STRATHPEFFER, BEAULY & GLEN ORD DISTILLERY

This morning is yours to relax at your leisure and explore the lovely Victorian spa town of Strathpeffer. Explore the village and its beautiful architecture, maybe visit the Pump Rooms or the Childhood Museum before the coach takes you to the nearby Glen Ord Distillery for a tour and tasting of the malts, and then some time to explore the thriving town of Beauly set on the banks of the River Beauly. Try and take time to visit the ancient Priory when you are here.

DUNROBIN CASTLE & TAIN

After a hearty Scottish breakfast at the hotel you travel north for our journey to the magnificent Dunrobin Castle in Sutherland. Sit back and enjoy some of Scotland’s most beautiful scenery as you cross the Moray Firth, the Black Isle and Cromarty Firth; a favourite resting ground for sunbathing grey seals. Dating back to the 1300’s, Dunrobin Castle sits on a high terrace overlooking the North Sea, and you will have plenty of time here to enjoy the stunning interior rooms and gardens, before the afternoon falconry display. We return through Tain, Scotland's oldest royal burgh. Steeped in dramatic history and scenic landscape, the town boasts spectacular architecture and a great array of wildlife.  The many interesting and unusual buildings and hidden-away corners, including the Old Town Hall, the Royal Hotel, the parish church and the museum as well as the more modest houses and commercial premises, were all built by the Maitland family of architects in the late 19th century and have a distinctive appearance.
