FLOORS CASTLE, KELSO & JEDBURGH
Enjoy a morning exploring Floors Castle in the Scottish Borders to view the beautiful interior rooms, fine art collection and tapestries along with a historical tour of the famous Castle built in 1721 for the 1st Duke of Roxburgh. This magnificent family seat is the largest inhabited house in Scotland, and has been home to eleven generations of the Duke's of Roxburghe. There's time to enjoy the beautiful gardens and grounds, Castle Gift range and Apple Shed Shop and Deli. We then take the short journey into to the charming town of Kelso on the River Tweed where you can explore the shops before we visit Jedburgh. Discover the wonderful collection of items on display relating to Mary's life in the Museum and the beauty and significance of the 12 century Abbey. Why not explore the 19th Century Castle Jail as well, now a museum giving insights into previous famous Jedburgh residents including the mathematician Mary Somerville, David Brewster who invented the kaleidoscope and James Veitch, astronomer.
ALNWICK & BERWICK-UPON-TWEED
Berwick upon Tweed is the most northerly cities in England and has been heavily fought over for its land, the Elizabethan walls and fortified posts still remain showing you the past conflict, you will see Stephenson's famous viaduct bridge, hailed as one of the finest in the world as you cross the tweed into the city. Enjoy time here before we journey south across the Border to Alnwick where you have the rest of you day to explore before we return to Melrose in time for dinner this evening.
MELROSE, GALASHIELS & PEEBLES
Enjoy time in Melrose this morning. Why not explore the ruined 11th century Abbey and its links to Robert the Bruce, or Abbotsford House home of Sir Walter Scott, and don't forget all the fabulous shops. After time here we journey to nearby Galashiels and Peebles, where you have time in both towns to explore their lovely shops, cafes and restaurants before returning to Melrose and the hotel in time for evening meal.
