Portpatrick & The Machars Peninsula

Time in Portpatrick this morning. Another lovely journey awaits you this afternoon as we travel along to the East of Galloway we tour through the Machars, a large peninsula which is the cradle of Scotland's Christianity. We visit Whithorn Priory Musuem to explore the many carvings found in this area, some dating back to 450 AD. There will also be a stop in Wigtown, now known as Scotland's National Book Town, where it will be impossible to leave empty-handed from its many shops.  Stop for a relaxing cuppa in one of the cafes before we return to the hotel.

Dumfries House & Burns Museum

Join the coach after breakfast for a lovely day out to visit the beautiful stately home of 5th Earl of Dumfries, and now better known for HRH Prince of Wales' restoration works, Dumfries House. Se in a 2000 acre estate and housing the largest collection of Chippendale furniture in the UK. Enjoy a guided tour of the house before exploring the estate grounds and gardens. After time for lunch we travel to the coast and visit Alloway, where you can have time to explore the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum and the Tam O' Shanter bridge.

 

 

Portpatrick Hotel - South Ayrshire

The Portpatrick Hotel is set in a spectacular location, on the cliff tops amongst nine acres of grounds. The area is a haven for sports lovers and outdoor types with a wide range of activities available nearby such as golf at the nearby Dunskey Golf Club, birdwatching, walking and fishing.

The 12th century Dunskey Castle is just two miles away. The sprawling Logan Botanic Garden, famous for its palms, tree ferns, eucalyptus grove and walled garden is 15 minutes’ drive from the hotel. You can even cross the Irish Sea to Northern Ireland by ferry from the nearby Cairnryan Port on Loch Ryan.
