Fri 24 April (Trossachs, Loch Lomond & Inveraray)
Join the coach for the first day of your Grand Tour of Scotland. Travel through the Trossachs National Park by the banks of Loch Lomond and Arrochar before spending time in the historic town of Inveraray on the banks of Loch Fyne. The jail here has some very interesting facts about the towns' history, as does the magnificent Inveraray Castle. We then travel the rest of journey and arrive in Oban and our Royal Hotel for the first of two nights. Enjoy welcome drinks before a delicious 3-course evening meal in the restaurant. Oban is the Seafood Capital of Scotland, and offers many attractions, shops and magnificent views over to the Inner Hebridean isles of Kerrara, Mull & Lismore.
Sat 25 April (Mull & Iona)
Today after breakfast in the hotel we travel on the morning ferry from Oban over to the Isles of Mull & Iona. Landing at Craignure, the coach will travel to Fionnphort, the most westerly point of the island, where you take the short ferry crossing on foot to the small and magical Island of Iona. Explore the island’s most valued treasures including the Abbey founded by St Columba in 563, the Augustine nunnery and Rèilig Odhrain; burial ground of many early Scottish Kings. The coach will travel back across the beautiful Isle of Mull for the ferry crossing to the mainland late afternoon. Watch out for local wildlife during your ferry trip, as you can easily spot dolphins, whales and basking sharks in the clear blue waters surrounding the boat. Sun 26 April (West Highland Line, Glencoe & Fort William)
Board the coach after a hearty Scottish breakfast and say goodbye to Oban as we travel north towards Fort William through the stunning backdrop of Glencoe & Rannoch Moor before arriving into the town of Fort William. Time to explore and grab some lunch before the coach takes you to Glenfinnan Viaduct where you can view the symbolic monument in honour of Charles Edward Stuart (Bonnie Prince Charlie) and the magnificent setting of the surrounding glen. Travel on to the fishing village Mallaig where you board the diesel train for the world famous West Highland Line journey, through the most stunning mountains and seascapes back towards Fort William. Then check into our Ben Nevis Hotel for your first of two nights stay here.
Mon 27 April (Isle of Skye)
Today you enjoy a scenic journey north to visit the Isle of Skye. Travelling from Fort William along the banks of Loch Lochy, Loch Duich & Loch Long where you will stop for a short time to enjoy the magnificent views at Eilean Donan Castle, before passing by Kyle of Lochalsh and crossing the bridge “over the sea to Skye”. Sit back and enjoy the breath-taking views of the famous Black Cuillin mountains, the small isles Scalpay and Raasay before arriving at the beautiful harbour town of Portree, where you will have time to sample the local shops and enjoy the unforgettable views over Loch Portree. After your enjoyable Hebridean excursion, the coach will travel back to the hotel in Fort William in time for a delicious dinner in the restaurant.
Tues 28 April (Loch Ness Cruise & Culloden Battlefield)
After a hearty Scottish breakfast in the hotel we depart Fort William and journey northwards through the Highlands to Fort Augustus at the mouth of Loch Ness where we join a cruiser and explore the ancient loch by boat. Learn about the geology and history of Scotland's most famous Loch, before we rejoin the coach and travel along the Loch Ness bank past the impressive remains of Urquhart Castle. Culloden Battlefield is our next stop, the site of the Jacobite Rising's bloodiest & final battle against the English in April 1746. Experience the powerful emotions in the Visitor Centre 360 degree theatre which puts you right in the action, and the calm, wild moorland where the battle took place. Arriving into the Ben Wyvis Hotel in Strathpeffer after our visit here, and enjoy your 3 course evening dinner in the hotel's restaurant this evening.
Wed 29 April (North Coast 500 & Thurso)
After a full-cooked breakfast this morning, we depart the hotel in Strathpeffer and begin our journey along the famous & scenic North Coast 500 Route. The breathtaking coastal scenery is the highlight of our tour, and we have stops at viewpoints along the way to Durness including Ardvreck Castle and Kylesku. Enjoy time at Sango Bay for lunch (packed lunch provided) then journey along the stunning twists and turns of the North Coast through Tongue & by Strathy until we reach Thurso, Britain’s most Northerly town and rich in Viking heritage. We check into the Park Hotel for the first of our two nights stay and enjoy a delicious dinner this evening in the hotel's main restaurant.
Thurs 30 April (John O'Groats & Caithness Tour)
This morning after a full Scottish breakfast join the coach and travel through the coastal scenery of the Far North Coast of Scotland along by the sandy bays of Castletown & Dunnet with a stop at Britain's most Northerly point Dunnet Head. This is a natural haven for birdlife and has scenic views across to Orkney. We then travel to John O'Groats (the end of the road) where there are shops, beach walks and the famous signpost to explore. Travelling on through the wild Caithness landscapes we visit the Norse settlement of Wick and the ruins of Castle Sinclair & Girnigoe. We return along the rugged coastal route by Whaligoe & Latheron, along the peatlands of Westerdale by Halkirk before arriving back to Thurso at the Park Hotel for your delicious dinner this evening.
Fri 1 May (Homeward Journey)
After a hearty Scottish breakfast this morning, join the coach for your return journey back home after this spectacular 8 day Grand Tour of Scotland. We have a few stops on the journey in Aviemore & Pitlochry for comfort.
